10 fun places to visit near Austin for a Romantic Weekend
As an Austinite for 25 years, I've always enjoyed taking day trips with friends and other couples. Discovering the areas near us is fun and exciting, and the best part is that it doesn't require a lot of planning or a big budget. These little escapes help break the routine and can be planned on a whim, making them the perfect way to reconnect and recharge. Whether you're planning a honeymoon, celebrating an anniversary, or just craving a spontaneous weekend away, these destinations near Austin offer the perfect backdrop for love.
1. Fredericksburg: Wine Country Charm
Nestled in the Texas Hill Country, Fredericksburg is a must for wine lovers. Tour scenic vineyards, sip award-winning wines, and stroll hand-in-hand down Main Street. Don't miss a sunset hike at Enchanted Rock, it's pure magic.

2. Wimberley: Rustic Romance
Wimberley is ideal for couples who appreciate cozy cabins, scenic swimming holes, and a laid-back atmosphere. Visit Jacob's Well or take in the views from the top of Old Baldy Hill. The town square is filled with charming shops and local eats.
3. Dripping Springs: Gateway to the Hill Country
Dripping Springs is the ultimate romantic retreat. Explore boutique wineries, visit Hamilton Pool Preserve, or book a spa day for two at one of the area's upscale resorts.
4. Lake Travis: Sunset Views and Lakeside Vibes
Just 30 minutes from downtown Austin, Lake Travis offers lakeside dining, boat rentals, and stunning sunsets. Rent a private boat, enjoy a floating picnic, or unwind at a waterfront resort-like Lakeway Resort & Spa.
5. Georgetown: Historic Elegance
With its charming downtown square and Victorian architecture, Georgetown is ideal for a quiet, romantic stroll. Visit the Inner Space Cavern, catch a performance at the Palace Theatre, and enjoy a candlelit dinner at a local bistro.
6. Marble Falls: Scenic Serenity
Known for its rolling hills and lakeside beauty, Marble Falls is a hidden gem. Explore the Bluebonnet Café (famous pie alert!), take a winery tour, or rent a kayak to explore the Colorado River together.
7. Blanco: Quaint and Quiet
Blanco State Park offers riverside picnicking, swimming, and hiking. Afterward, enjoy a glass of local beer at Real Ale Brewing Company or explore the charming square lined with boutiques and small-town cafes.
8. San Marcos: For the Young at Heart
Float the river, shop at the massive outlet malls, or take a glass-bottom boat tour at the Meadows Center. San Marcos blends college-town energy with natural beauty—perfect for couples who like a little adventure.

9. Johnson City: Starry Skies and Artful Vibes
Home to Lyndon B. Johnson's historic ranch and the Science Mill, a fun stop even for adults, Johnson City offers peaceful landscapes and dark skies perfect for stargazing. Book a stay at a cozy Hill Country B&B and unwind.
10. Gruene: Dance the Night Away
This historic district in New Braunfels is known for its old-world charm and country flair. Two-step at Gruene Hall (Texas's oldest dance hall), float the Guadalupe River, and share a romantic dinner at the Gristmill overlooking the water.
